Perfect for the job. Efficient, robust and easy to clean. I built a simple wooden frame for convenience that suspends it over a basin to catch the juice but it would work fine just placed over the lid of a bucket.

A vital piece of kit which crushed the whole apples to allow the juice to be extracted through the fruit press. It was hard work

The crusher and press produced a clear apple juice with little sediment. My one thought is that the crusher produced quite large apple chips that when pressed did not release quite as much juice as my previous home made system which produced a very wet pulp, which resulted in a more cloudy product but much greater volume. How do I find the middle road?

This a speedy and lighter work device to much through a sack load of apples in ~1/2 hr.
My only only reservation is the size of pieces produced. The idea is apple shreds, like grater cheese. This device produces prune size buts of apple. When add to the fruit press, especially the vigo one to which more pressure must be applied the bigger the apple pieces, the press walks off the surface and your loose juice. If thus device had a second finer scrater downstream if the 1st coarser scrator, with a lever to divert to coarse or fine accirding to need, i’d give it 5 out of 5. Now you need to bash the bits to better pulp.
Mrs Moira Ross –
Previous to buying the crusher we used a drill and bucket to crush the apples.
We have saved a lot of work and time by using the crusher we purchased. It is not cheap but we will have it for many years to come. Recommend.
